We know that going to a new doctor’s office can be stressful.  We want to help you have a pleasant experience when you come to our office for a visit with Dr. Goyal.  Here are some of the things you can expect when you come for your first visit in our office.

Arrival

At both of our offices, free parking is available in an attached parking lot.

For maps and directions to our offices, please click here for our New Jersey office and click here for our New York office.

Check-in

Our team will greet you at our check-in window.  They will check to see what paperwork needs to be completed.  Most of our patients are able to complete their paperwork online from home using our online system at gobreeze.com.  If you prefer completing printed forms, they can e-mail the forms to you. You can then print and complete them. Sometimes, the paperwork does take a little while to complete, so having it completed before your scheduled appointment will help us shorten your visit in our office.  Please also bring your insurance card and ID with you.  Our office is in-network with most major insurance plans.  Read more about insurance plans accepted at our office.

CT scan

Most of our patients will need a special type of x-ray called a CT scan.  This allows Dr. Goyal to get a detailed picture of the inside of the sinuses to look for things like swelling, fluid, blockage, and polyps.  Some patients will have had a scan somewhere else before their visit. Please bring a copy of the images on a CD if your scan has been performed elsewhere.

History and examination

Dr. Goyal will talk to you to find out more about what sorts of problems you have been having with your sinus issues.  Nasal and sinus issues can lead to many different kinds of symptoms, and we want to try to figure out the things that bother you most.  That way, we can try to determine what types of treatments would be best for you.

After talking to you about your symptoms, Dr. Goyal will examine the areas that are affected by sinus issues.  This includes looking at your ears, nose, mouth, and throat.

Nasal endoscopy

To accurately diagnose your nasal and sinus issues, Dr. Goyal will need to look inside your nose.  Nasal endoscopy is a procedure that allows Dr. Goyal to get a good view of areas inside your nose and your sinuses.  Think of the nasal endoscope as a tiny flashlight that helps the doctor see inside your nose.

Dr. Goyal may need to spray your nose with a little numbing medicine before the nasal endoscopy to make you comfortable.  Most people feel a little tickle inside their nose, but the endoscopy should not be painful for you.

Discussion of treatment options

After getting your history, performing your exam and nasal endoscopy, and reviewing your CT scan images, we will go over treatment options.  For some of our patients, that means finding the right combination of medicines for their nasal symptoms. For other cases, we may talk about the option of surgery.  We will also do our best to answer any of your questions at this time.

Please remember that you are not under any pressure to make a decision about what treatment you want to pursue.  We know it takes time to think about the information we go over at your visit. You should take the time you need to come to the best decision for yourself.  You can always reach out to us after your visit if you have other questions or want to move forward with a specific option.

Check-out

Our team will complete the check-out process and complete your visit.  If you need a follow up appointment, they will help schedule that at this time.

If you have decided that you want to move forward with surgery, we can talk to you about scheduling surgery.  We will do our best to work with your schedule to find a surgery day that works for you.

After your visit, you can feel free to contact us if you have other questions or need more information about anything we have discussed.
