Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower Eyelid Surgery

As we age, our skin loses elasticity and can cause bags or sagging under the eyes. These changes can create a tired or aged appearance. Lower eyelid surgery, also known as lower blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to improve the appearance of the lower eyelids. If you’re experiencing these concerns, you may be a candidate for lower eyelid surgery.

What is Lower Eyelid Surgery?

A lower eyelid lift, or lower blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to address bags, sagging, and wrinkles underneath the eyes. During the procedure, Board Certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Lindsey Goyal removes excess skin and fat from the lower eyelids to provide a more youthful and refreshed appearance. Dr. Goyal can perform lower blepharoplasty alone or in conjunction with other facial plastic surgery procedures, such as a upper eyelid surgery, a facelift, or brow lift.

How Do I Know if I’m a Candidate for Lower Eyelid Surgery?

Before undergoing a lower eyelid lift, patients will have a consultation with our Board Certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Lindsey Goyal. During the consultation, Dr. Goyal will discuss goals and expectations for the procedure. She will also assess the eyelid anatomy and determine the best approach for achieving the desired results.

How Does Lower Eyelid Surgery Work?

Dr. Goyal typically performs this type of surgery under sedation or anesthesia. During the surgery, Dr. Goyal will make incisions either inside the lower eyelid or just below the eyelashes to remove excess skin and fat. She will then reposition the deeper tissues underneath the eye to ensure a smooth contour at the skin’s surface. Depending on the procedure, some patients may require sutures. Once the procedure is complete, we monitor patients closely until they are ready to return home.

After the surgery, patients will need to take some time to rest and recover. They may experience swelling and bruising around the eyes. It is important to avoid strenuous activity and to keep the head elevated. Most patients can return to work and other normal activities within a week or two, although it may take longer for the swelling to fully subside and the final results to become apparent.

Why Choose Lower Eyelid Surgery?

There are many reasons patients choose to undergo a lower eyelid lift. Some common reasons include:

  • Correcting bags or sagging underneath the eyes that make you look tired or older than you are.
  • Removing wrinkles and fine lines under the eyes.
  • Improving the appearance of the eyes and restoring a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
  • Addressing the effects of injury or trauma to the lower eyelids.

Ultimately, the decision to undergo lower eyelid surgery is a personal one that should be made after careful consideration and consultation.
