Earlobe Repair

Questions About Earlobe Repair

Dr. Lindsey Goyal is a facial plastic surgeon with expertise in repairing torn or stretched earlobes.

What is earlobe repair?

Earlobe repair is a commonly sought after procedure to alter the shape of the earlobe. Use of heavy earrings can stretch and sometimes even tear the earlobe, making it difficult to continue to wear certain types of earrings.  Some patients seek earlobe repair after years of using gauges that intentionally stretch the earlobe. Some patients seek earlobe repair for other reasons such as asymmetry, changes in shape after certain surgical procedures, and correction of telltale signs of aging. These repairs can often be performed with surgery under local anesthesia in the office.

What is the procedure of an earlobe repair?

During an earlobe repair, Dr. Goyal will first inject local anesthesia into the earlobe to numb the tissues and make your procedure more comfortable. She will then utilize a specialized technique to rearrange the tissue and reconstruct the earlobe. The procedure is customized to help optimize healing and aesthetic outcome for each individual patient. Sutures are placed at the time of surgery. You will not require any bandages.

What is the recovery after an earlobe repair?

You will have sutures in place after your procedure that will need to be removed. Most patients do not have much discomfort after the procedure. You can resume normal activities immediately after the procedure. You may have your ears pierced again after a prescribed period of healing.
